Join the exclusive Water Technology trade mission to Amsterdam 6-8 november (WTEX10)

During the Aquatech Amsterdam, a special mission for public utilities, drinking water and wastewater, and industrial end-users from Spain, Portugal, the US and the UK is being organized by Water Alliance. Visits to the exhibition are integrated into the programme. The mission is supported by the Government of the Netherlands and is exclusive for the water industry: public and private utilities, drinking- and waste water services, as well as representatives from various industrial end users . The primary objectives of the mission are to learn about new innovative solutions, make new business contacts, exchange knowledge, discuss future challenges and explore potential solutions in an exclusive setting. Waste Water & Resources World
Session: Resource recovery from water: how to solve the challenge of value creation.

Droughts, emerging substances that are harmful for people and the environment, the transition to a circular economy, the energy transition, biodiversity and climate change as a result of CO2 emissions. Water is connected to a lot of world-wide societal challenges. Innovation in the field of Water Technology is key for solving these challenges. However, the challenges can only be solved by cooperating in the complete value chain. Recovery of nutrients, cellulose and bioplastics from industry and waste water only makes sense if the recovered products have high-end applications (eg. In agriculture, chemistry, construction, etc.). Setting up these value chains is quite a challenge. In this expert interview watertech companies and utilities will share their experience in setting up these value chains.

Clean Water World
Session: Underground fresh water storage, practical solutions to increase water security

The Dutch delta faces enormous challenges in freshwater provision for industry, agriculture and nature during increasingly frequent severe droughts. This requires a major overhaul towards a water system that stores precipitation surpluses instead of discharging it to sea and that uses alternative water sources.

One of the topics within the Dutch project AquaConnect is brackish water extraction and brine management. The aim is to store fresh water in a brackish water environment.

Thomas Wagner of the Wageningen University & Research will explain the project goals and purpose. Gertjan Zwolsman of Dunea will present about their role in this project and provides more information about their Freshman project to store freshwater under the dunes. Ruben Wentink of FieldFactors will present their view on preventing urban flooding, reducing heat stress, and having sufficient freshwater supply all year round to save on your water bill. The session will be moderated by Water Alliance and includes a panel discussion with the presenting parties.

Invitation | On November 8, 2023, from 4:45 PM to 6:00 PM, we invite you to ‘Het Grote Watertechnologie Verkiezingsdebat’ at Rai Amsterdam during Aquatech Amsterdam 2023. Hosted by radio presenter Werner Schouten of BNR Radio, this debate provides insight into the positions of various political national parties on crucial water issues in just one hour.

Digital Water World
Session: Data driven predictive asset management

In this session, we discuss the state-of-the-art in Predictive asset management for which we focus on the five maturity levels for asset management and the criticality analysis. The maturity journey can only be followed when data of both sufficient quality and quantity is available, and is stored and transferred in a robust and reliable way. Additionally, asset criticality analysis enables the right selection of technologies for maintenance and asset optimization strategy.

During this session, technology providers Spatial Insight (management of underground infrastructure), Samotics (predictive maintenance and operational optimization for rotating equipment), and DigiGO (national platform for digitalization of infrastructure and built environment) will discuss with the audience how to make steps in this exciting field.

AquaMatch Company Mission – Meet the Dutch!

The AquaMatch tailor-made company mission will be held on 7- 8 November (9 November optional).

The aim of the event is to establish new connections for fruitful business and technological collaborations to support international development towards sustainable, circular and high-quality water cycle.

The mission is focused on (small) groups of companies (from a country or region) with an interest in the Dutch Water sector. EEN NL partners, Netherlands Enterprise Agency and WaterAlliance will arrange a tailor-made program for the group according to their requests and our capabilities within the Aquatech specific topics (see focus areas).

If the group or companies have a specific interested in Water and Climate adaptation in Urban areas, Flood and Draught Management and other Water Management topics, please let us know. The program could contain: Individual matchmaking, presentations/workshops, exhibition tour, networking drinks, site visits, etc.

Netherlands Water Partnership and Water Alliance are counting down the days to Aquatech Amsterdam and are delighted to host incoming delegations from different continents. All delegations participate in a full programme that starts with a welcome in the NL Lounge, followed by exhibition tours and a variety of networking events such as round table sessions, and match-making activities.

NL Lounge Session: Water climate challenges in urban areas: Perspectives from different countries

Water clusters all around the world collaborate to collectively address global water challenges, recognizing that country-specific or industry-specific solutions are inadequate. Their efforts involve connecting businesses, sharing opportunities, and rapidly advancing innovative solutions across various sectors. Through various projects and networks, water clusters pursue highly collaborative and internationally oriented work. This session will showcase water innovations in urban areas by SMEs from various countries, leveraging the groundbreaking examples of global water clusters efforts such as the International Cleantech Network (ICN). Dissolve pollution of MBR in water at local level
The project ‘ Medicine residues from water North ’ is a collaboration between more than 20 partner organizations where drug residues are extracted from water through prevention and water technology. There are various experiments within the project in which problems where the water is polluted are tackled in an innovative way.

The following experiment will be discussed in this session: Handwashing after medical procedures, saliva, nutridrinks and other nutrient-rich liquids: washbasins in hospitals have a lot to endure. The result: a risk of the growth of (resistant) bacteria in siphons. That is why UMC Groningen is investigating the use of special UV disinfection siphons: “We are on the safe side”. Bacteria can be life-threatening for people with a limited functioning immune system. No wonder hospitals have strict hygiene rules and legionella protocols. Sometimes, however, the risks lie in unexpected places, such as in siphons under washbasins. “ By washing hands, flushing residues of glucose from IV bags or nutridrink or by spitting, a lot of bacteria end up in siphons ”, says Hanneke Lestestuiver, Environmental Advisor at UMCG. “ They can multiply in the standing water and potentially infect patients and personnel via aerosols. We suspect that this has happened in the past.

”The siphons prove to be a good place for bacteria such as E.coli, Enterobacter spp. and Citrobacter spp., which can cause all kinds of infections. In addition, there is a risk of the spread of resistant bacteria. “ When patients are infected with a resistant bacteria and use the sink, bacteria can multiply further in the siphon ”, says Lestestuiver. “ There is a chance that the contamination will continue. Due to the position of the siphon between the hospital and the sewer, there is a chance that these pathogens will also spread to the sewer. This increases the risk of the large-scale spread of resistant bacteria. ”

UMC Groningen wants to minimize the risks. Together with Van Remmen UV Technology, they investigate the use of special UV disinfection siphons.
