REDstack, a Dutch scale-up originating from Wetsus, is pleased to announce the successful completion of an investment round led by Pure Terra Ventures, with additional support from prominent investors, including NOM and Easter Technology.
“Since the original EDR stack was designed some 50 years ago the industry has been waiting for a breakthrough in ElectroDialysis technology. Enter REDstack with their innovative design, extreme reduction of energy consumption, extension of membrane lifetime, reduced maintenance, and 100% leak-free operation. We are very excited to bring this leap forward from traditional EDR technology to the global market” says Nic Pannekeet – Partner PureTerra Ventures. “Our investment will contribute to an automated production line, fueling the commercialization and global impact of this game-changing technology.”
NOM reinforces its commitment to supporting innovative companies that drive meaningful transitions in sustainable and smart technologies. Sjouke Mulder, representing NOM, emphasized: “At NOM, we are committed to empowering innovative companies that drive impactful transitions in sustainable and smart technologies. REDstack’s advancements in water technology align perfectly with our mission. Their recent establishment in Heerenveen and strong connection to Wetsus in Leeuwarden underline the importance of collaboration in fostering sustainable growth in the Northern Netherlands. By investing in REDstack, we are enabling innovation that addresses global water challenges while strengthening the regional economy.”
The funding will enable REDstack to accelerate the commercialization and large-scale production of its innovative ElectroMembrane Stack technology. This stack technology advances both ElectroDialysis and Bipolar ElectroDialysis, with proven applications in carbon dioxide capture, nitrogen recovery, and brackish water desalination. Looking ahead, the team envisions numerous new applications in resource recovery, staying one step ahead in the electromembrane market through the development of advanced and cost effective stacks.
Building on a rich heritage of innovation, REDstack manufactures proprietary equipment that, through optimized flow distribution, significantly reduces the energy required for ion transport—using 2 to 3 times less energy than comparable systems. This design ensures stable operation and reduces maintenance demands for operators. REDstack experts analyze membranes in-house to select the best match for each application.
Pieter Hack, Founder of REDstack and representative of W&F Technologies B.V., shared his enthusiasm about the company’s next phase:”As Founder of REDstack, I am happy and proud that with this new investment from leading and renowned investors, REDstack is heading to her next phase in becoming the leading supplier of technology and electro-membrane stacks for innovative and sustainable applications in the water market.”
Paula Gonzalez, REDstack’s new CEO, stated, “This investment is more than just upscaling technology—it’s about harnessing the power of disruptive technology to address water treatment, climate change, and resource scarcity. REDstack exemplifies the potential when technology and purpose unite.”
