R&D Opportunities for Dutch companies
Many Dutch companies are already on the Brazilian market. Brazil has a large and growing consumer base, access to various kinds of resources, a clean energy grid and a well skilled work-force. The Dutch-Brazilian chamber of commerce Dutcham has over 70 members. Companies came to Brazil mostly to have access to the large domestic or regional market, or to do production. Lesser known are the opportunities to also do R&D and innovation in Brazil.
Brazil hosts several top-class research institutes. The state of São Paulo is home to USP, the best ranked university in Latin America. Furthermore, it has clusters of high-tech institutes on e.g. digitalization, agriculture and aerospace. Spread over the country, there are hubs specializing in topics such as AI, renewable energy and bioeconomy.
Brazil’s economy is quite protected and not easy to penetrate. However the government actively promotes R&D and supports foreign companies to innovative in Brazil. E.g. Embrapii is an organisation that can flexibly support innovation projects and reduce risks, using its network of specialized Embrapii-units, which are also open to work with foreign companies.
During the webinar, the opportunities to do R&D in Brazil with innovative partners, will be highlighted, as well as, amongst others, the Embrapii model. Dutch companies and Brazilian high-tech institutes that already work together, will present existing good practice examples.
