Opportunities at the Intersection of Water and Agriculture
During the Water & Agri Day, we bring together innovative companies, knowledge institutions, and national and regional government organizations that are active in the water and agri sectors.
From across the Netherlands, participants share their experiences through practical examples, international cases, and leading research. This day offers plenty of opportunities to exchange knowledge and connect with partners and companies that are already successfully collaborating both nationally and internationally.
The agricultural sector is responsible for a large share of global water consumption. In the past hydrological year (1 April – 1 October 2025), the Netherlands faced a precipitation deficit of approximately 200 to 250 mm. Using water more efficiently is therefore no longer an option but a necessity. This situation closely resembles that of Southern European countries such as Spain, Italy, and Portugal, where agriculture accounts for more than 70% of water use. Thanks to years of experience with drought and water reuse, these countries offer inspiring examples of smarter irrigation, circular water management, and digital monitoring.
Just like in the Netherlands, these focus countries also present great opportunities for the Dutch water sector to offer innovative technological solutions for challenges such as salinization, soil quality, and water reuse. By forming new consortia or expanding existing collaborations, we can take the next step towards future-proof water systems – both in the Netherlands and abroad.
