National and international projects are an important instrument for accelerating innovation and strengthening market development within water and environmental technology. Within these initiatives, businesses, knowledge institutions and government bodies work together on technological development, collaboration and international positioning.

Cross-sectoral Innovation Programme Water Technology

Strengthens the innovation ecosystem in the Northern Netherlands by fostering collaboration between businesses and knowledge institutions. Stimulates entrepreneurship, talent development and cross-sector innovation.

A European programme that supports SMEs in developing and internationalising innovative water solutions. Provides financial support for innovation, expertise and market development in collaboration with regional partners.

Enterprise Europe Network

An international network that supports organisations with internationalisation and innovation across 56 countries. Helps identify partners, market opportunities and European funding opportunities, and supports strategic collaboration.

Northern Netherlands leading in reducing pharmaceutical residues in water

A regional innovation project in which healthcare, pharmaceuticals and water technology collaborate on practical solutions to reduce pharmaceutical residues in (waste)water. Focuses on proof of concepts, scaling up and economic impact in the Northern Netherlands.

SME Innovation Stimulation – Region and Top Sectors

A grant programme for SMEs working on innovative products or processes. Provides support for feasibility studies, knowledge questions and collaborative R&D projects, with a focus on technological development and market validation.

Supports start-ups and scale-ups in developing, testing and validating new water technology. Provides access to facilities, incubation, expert guidance and early-stage funding to accelerate innovations towards market introduction and scaling. Also strengthens entrepreneurship and international positioning.

NEW WATER – Towards a climate-resilient drinking water supply in North-West Europe

A European Interreg project that develops solutions to safely convert alternative water sources such as wastewater and rainwater into drinking water. Focuses on pilots, innovative treatment technologies and international scaling in North-West Europe.

PPS Allowance for Research and Innovation

Stimulates collaboration between businesses and knowledge institutions in water technology by strengthening private R&D investments with a government contribution. Lowers the financial threshold for joint innovation and development projects.

TKI Water Technology

Connects businesses, knowledge institutions and government bodies through network activities, thematic sessions and matchmaking. Brings together TKI network activities, TKI POA and innovation brokerage, and supports SMEs with funding applications and innovation towards market readiness.

A ten-year National Growth Fund programme that strengthens the international growth and innovation capacity of the Dutch water technology sector. Provides support through knowledge development, pilots, demonstrations and market-oriented programmes for entrepreneurship and export.

A European Horizon partnership that drives research and innovation around water challenges in Europe. Offers Dutch start-ups and SMEs access to international calls, collaboration and scaling opportunities within strong European consortia and strategic partnerships.

A European collaboration project in which regions work on strengthening their water innovation ecosystem. Provides businesses and organisations with opportunities for collaboration, knowledge exchange and sustainable market development in island contexts.

Supports Dutch water technology companies with international ambitions in exploring markets and strengthening their positioning in regions including North America and Southern Europe. Combines branding, market intelligence, consortium building and access to funding to accelerate export and scaling.
