Avic proudly announces the launch of their revolutionary autonomous rain gauge, a groundbreaking advancement in precipitation measurement technology.
This new innovation promises high accuracy and complete autonomy, marking an essential addition to water management systems worldwide. At the core of this innovation is the SolarMini, a fully maintenance-free datalogger that combines extremely low energy consumption with highly reliable real-time data acquisition.
The key features of the autonomous rain gauge include:
- Autonomous Functionality: The compact, solar-powered datalogger operates entirely independently, without external power sources. It requires no maintenance due to the absence of batteries or accumulators, eliminating the need for environmentally burdensome replacements.
- WMO-Compliant TBRG: Equipped with a Tipping Bucket Rain Gauge meeting the World Meteorological Organization’s (WMO) standards. The SolarMini ensures precise measurements with automatic compensation for possible TBRG nonlinearities.
- Simple Implementation: Due to the system’s autonomous nature, optimal measurement locations are easier to identify. It’s possible to deploy multiple units in different locations to capture localized precipitation patterns effectively.
- Robust Design: Constructed with a durable stainless steel frame housing both the rain gauge and datalogger, it provides a compact, easily installable solution resistant to diverse environmental conditions.
- Real-time Accuracy: The datalogger records measurements every 5 minutes and transmits them instantly during precipitation, offering a detailed real-time view of the precipitation pattern.
- API Interface: Utilizing an API interface, among other features, allows you to access precipitation information directly in your own mainframe or analysis software.
While the option of using “weighing gauges” exists, it’s important to note that these have significantly higher energy consumption compared to TBRG meters. Due to this requirement, these types of rain gauges typically rely on an external power source.
Proven Reliability Over a Decade at Waterschap Rivierenland
Avic’s autonomous rain gauges and dataloggers have been successfully utilized for over 10 years at “Waterschap Rivierenland”, including ground and surface water monitoring. In collaboration with Jef Willemsen of the water board, Avic launched the first fully maintenance-free datalogger with rain gauge on December 6. The installation took only 10 minutes, signifying a new era of simplicity and reliability in precipitation measurements. This advanced datalogger promises significant improvements in accuracy and operational efficiency for Waterschap Rivierenland. Their ongoing collaboration underscores Avic’s commitment to innovation and reliability in water management.
