It has been over a month since Water Alliance member Klaren successfully installed a 5-effect Multi-Effect evaporator (MEE) into use, where Klaren converted the 1st effect to a self-cleaning configuration. The 5-effect MEE, from a well-known chemical company in Asia, is used to recover sodium sulphate (Na2SO4). The installation and commissioning of the self-cleaning evaporator with more than 800 tubes went smoothly in cooperation with the customer.
The first results are positive. In the first month of production, it can be seen that with the self-cleaning configuration, the production capacity is significantly increased (15-20%) and steam consumption is reduced (5-10%).
With this application, Klaren International expands the list of salts that cause contamination in the evaporator system and for which the self-cleaning technology offers a solution. This list also includes Calcium Sulphate (CaSO4), Sodium Chloride (NaCl) and Sodium Bicarbonate (NaHCO3).
Klaren are now looking forward to the first inspection where they will check the status of the complete plan. This is another successful experience for Klaren in the field of evaporators.
About Klaren:
Klaren International, based in the Netherlands, offers continuous cleaning solutions for both new and existing heat exchangers. The self-cleaning configuration can be applied in all kinds of industries, including wastewater treatment. On the tube side of the self-cleaning heat exchangers through which the fouling liquid flows, a fluid bed of solid particles is used. The solid particles create a mild scouring effect on the tube wall surface, removing the developing fouling layer. This prevents the fouling of shell & tube heat exchangers. Klaren International is also engaged in solving fouling problems in Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) installations around the world, including Multi Effect Evaporators (MEE) and Mechanical Vapor Recompression Evaporators (MVR).
