On November 19, the very first TKI Water Technology Day took place at the Water Quarter of KWR in Nieuwegein. The event, organized by TKI Water Technology in collaboration with Water Alliance and Netherlands Water Partnership, brought together experts, researchers, and businesses to share knowledge, stimulate innovation, and forge new partnerships. With a diverse program of inspiring presentations, matchmaking sessions, and lively discussions, this day marked the beginning of something promising and important.
A day full of inspiration and collaboration
The day was opened by Anne Hummelen, Program Director of TKI Water Technology, and hosted by event chair Arjan Braamskamp. The program showcased innovative projects such as the KNAP-project, Water Circulair Nieuwegein City, HerCauWer, Shark Skin for Drag Reduction and Urban Photosynthesis. These sessions not only presented groundbreaking ideas but also sparked lively discussions between participants and presenters.
Interactive knowledge exchange of great value
The interactive nature of the day was highly appreciated by the participants. Enthusiasm was evident even during the lunch break, where discussions continued unabated. In addition to the presentations, the matchmaking sessions offered opportunities to explore potential collaborations. The tour of KWR’s Water Quarter provided participants with a look into the innovative research facilities. This combination of in-depth sessions and personal interaction created an inspiring and constructive atmosphere. Many found this exchange of knowledge to be both valuable and unique. Anne Hummelen commented: “We are already innovating as a sector. The ambition and drive are strong, but there is still work to be done to bring those innovations to application. Events like this are crucial for making progress together.“
Podcast series
During the TKI Water Technology Day, a new podcast series was also recorded. De Radiofabriek interviewed various innovators and research institutions about how they have turned ideas from the early stages into successful market-ready solutions. This podcast series highlights Dutch experts from business and research institutions who share their insights and experiences on how private innovators and research organizations joined forces to transform concepts (TRL 1-3) into market-ready solutions (TRL 7-9).
The discussions offer a unique behind-the-scenes look at successful TKI Water Technology projects. They show not only how collaboration accelerates innovations, but also how these innovations inspire new initiatives to tackle water challenges effectively. Keep an eye on the NWP website for the upcoming podcast episodes.
A promising future
The first TKI Water Technology Day marked a new starting point for collaboration and innovation in the water sector. With themes such as circularity, climate adaptation, and biodiversity at the forefront of this inaugural edition, the event provided an opportunity to collectively shape the future of water technology. As one participant aptly said, “We need to do this more often. It’s well-organized, and I’ve gained many interesting insights.”
This successful start lays a strong foundation for future editions, where we will continue to accelerate innovations in the water sector.
