In March, a wastewater treatment plant, close to the city of Buenos Aires (Argentina), has been successfully commissioned by Berghof customer Nordic Water South America. The purification technology used in this project is based upon Berghof Membrane Technology. A special project for Berghof, since this is the first installed MBR system for landfill leachate treatment in South America.
Leachate is one of the most difficult effluents to be treated. Berghof developed a compact MBR treatment technology, using PVDF tubular membranes, being a reliable solution in this purification step.
Berghof has over 200 worldwide references in leachate applications and is very enthusiastic about this new application. This project in Argentina represents a milestone in the landfill leachate treatment in South America, delivering the first MBR system in this region. Berghof offered a solution being robust with a minor impact in footprint, which was required by the customer as one of the main challenges.
The Bioflow ultrafiltration system:
- 5 UF Bioflow skids with each 6 modules
- Total capacity: 2640 m3/day
- PVDF tubular membranes, with a diameter of 8 mm
- FRP modules, with a diameter of 10 inch and a length of 4m
Customer’s benefits
Berghof membranes are externally mounted and that makes them easier to clean. It is a robust technology with a small footprint. Thanks to the UF system, the permeate obtained, has the required quality to feed the Nano Filtration (NF). Operational costs and CIP frequency can be saved by this excellent permeate quality.
Discharge takes place according to the legal parameters en reuse.
