Innovation and sustainability, collaboration and progress: the keywords that defined this year’s Anuga FoodTec fair. Between March 19 and 22, companies from various sectors were present at this food technology-focused event. Several Dutch companies from the water technology sector also showcased themselves during the Enterprise Europe Network session ‘Product recovery and reuse of (waste) water in the food processing industry,’ held on March 21 in collaboration with partner Zenit, organized by Water Alliance at the EEN Europe Pavilion.
“The theme of water and the possibilities of water technology are becoming increasingly prominent at a food tech fair like Anuga,” says Water Alliance’s Harro Brons, who moderated the session. “Our session on product/protein recovery and (waste) water reuse illustrates this well, with the conversation focusing particularly on the drivers and the facilitating role of water technology therein. Drivers include reduced water availability, effects of climate change, improving cost efficiency (water, product, energy, chemicals), stricter laws and regulations, internal sustainability requirements, or demands from customers regarding sustainability.”
Presentations
The presentations “High-value product recovery from waste streams” by Bram van Gelder (Wafilin) and “Water reuse in the food processing industry” by Arno Simons (Colubris) were well-received during the informal session. Even during the networking session afterward, there were several attendees who stayed to continue discussions and made connections with the company representatives. (text continues under the images)
Zenit, the innovation agency of Nordrhein-Westfalen, proved to be a valuable partner in organizing joint projects such as the session at the Europa Pavilion, according to Brigitte Duffhues, who guided the organization on behalf of Water Alliance. “This Enterprise Europe Network partner is actively promoting innovation in this “Bundesland”. Furthermore, Zenit is involved in the circular use of water and are excellent matchmakers in European projects. Therefore, they are an ideal partner to develop joint projects and establish contacts for our companies.” Brigitte adds, “Overall, a very successful first event together. This is definitely worth repeating!”
Another session
In addition to the previously mentioned session, they organized another session during Anuga: a Match2Achieve session with the theme Sustainable Food Technology. Roemer Goossenssen from Konkaav gave a brief presentation to a group of 50 Enterprise Europe Network advisors. He introduced his technology and specified the type of foreign contacts he is seeking. Six of the attending advisors expressed their ability to assist him with contacts in their respective countries. A promising outcome that will certainly lead to further collaboration!
