As early as 2004, Wetsus started with the theme ‘Blue Energy’. The goal: to generate energy from fresh and salt water. Water Alliance member REDstack originated as a spin-off company from Wetsus. After years of pioneering, the company has succeeded in generating this clean energy on a substantial scale on the famous Afsluitdijk in the Netherlands. This so-called Blue Energy has some major advantages over solar energy and wind energy.
