Energy & Water : Challenges and opportunities

This workshop aims on informing and discussing on the market opportunities and challenges for SMEs. Experts will provide regional and global insights regarding the energy and water nexus.
During a group discussion with participants and the Expert Group, participants are advised on export actions on the global market.

We focus on the following issues:
• what is an interesting market for a particular technology in the energy and water sector?
• What are the opportunities and threats when you step in to the international market?

Members of our expert group: Frank Brandsen (Energy Valley), Erwin Dirksen (DMT), Guillermo Zaragoza (CIEMAT), Piet Ackermans (Antea Group), Wouter de Buck (NWP) and Ulrich Scheele (OLEC). This session will be chaired by Jouke Smid (Water Alliance) and Hans van Breugel (Tocardo).

Cyanobacteria threats in fresh surface water bodies: how serious, what can you do?

Participants of this seminar will receive an overview of the global impact of cynanobacteria blooming and drivers for growth on drinking and bathing water bodies . Focus of the presentations of prominent international experts from this working field during this session will be on the medical impact on mankind, the latest monitoring strategies and the latest treatment strategies. Additional to this afternoon theme session during WaterLink, there is an optional morning session with even more presentations of the expert group. The highlighted water bodies in this session will be part of the fieldtrip in the optional bus tour on Friday.

This seminar will be chaired by Hans Wouters (BleuLeg Monitoring BV) and a group of experts will cover topics such as: rapid detection methods, datamanagement and forecasting, treatment strategies, impact of toxines on mankind and case studies.

Real time monitoring and smart sensors for water quality control

EIP Water Action Group CTRL+SWAN (Cloud Technologies & ReaL time monitoring + Smart WAter Network) invites you to take part in an interactive session on Real time monitoring. The workshop is aimed to briefly present innovative sensors technology for real time monitoring applied to all sectors of water management. New smart sensors (RT (Real Time) and OMS (On-Line Measurement Sensors)) based on innovative approach and technologies will be presented. This session includes a round table discussion that offers participants the opportunity to interact with the speakers coming from companies, research centers and universities to identify potential collaborations.

This session will be chaired by Anna Di Mauro (Med.Hydro, Second University of Naples & Ctrl+Swan Action Group). She will be accompanied by an expert group with Joep van den Broeke (Optiqua Technologies), Gianluca Persichetti (CNR-IREA) and Luca Sanfilippo (Systea).

Boost your innovation with triple helix collaboration

Innovation is the engine of the Dutch economy. Centres of Expertise (CoE’s) realise the continuous circulation of knowledge between entrepreneurs, students/ teachers and governments in order to enable and accelerate innovation for the Dutch top sectors. The Centre of Expertise Water Technology (CEW) does so in the field of water technology. Collaboration with a CoE opens doors that normally will stay closed for most SME’s and even Larger Industries. Listen to the partners of the projects ‘Waste Water Purification for the Greenhouse Industry in Berlikum’ (ao Mateo Mayer, Easy Measure) and ‘Cellulose in Asphalt’ (ao Erik Pijlman, KNN Cellulose B.V.) and discover what a CoE like CEW can do for your innovation. You will have plenty of opportunity to ask critical questions to the project partners. The discussion is led by Gerard van der Veer, former anchorman of regional broadcaster Omrop Fryslân.

Host: Gerard van der Veer (WijvanPS), Speakers: Martijn Bijmans (Managing Director CEW), representatives of CEW-projects “Waste Water Purification Greenhouse Industry Berlikum” (ao Mateo Mayer, Easy Measure) and “Cellulose in Asphalt” (ao Erik Pijlman, KNN Cellulose B.V.)

Accelerating Resource Recovery from the water cycle for a circular economy

The purpose of this workshop is to accelerate the development of resource recovery from the water cycle (e.g. iron and calcite from drinking water production, phosphorus and cellulose from waste water) by bridging the gap between supply and demand. The aim is to share actual knowledge, experiences, bottlenecks and solutions, but above all to connect different initiatives.
To accelerate the development of resource recovery, sustainable value chains and markets for products from the water cycle are essential. We will follow the value chain and experts will exchange experiences and share expectations and opportunities.

This session will be chaired by Kees Roest (TKI Water technology | KWR ). He will be accompanied by an expert group with Coos Wessels (BWA) and Theo vd Hoven (KWR)

Festivals, pilot for water innovations

A festival is in fact a small society: challenges in the field of energy water and waste occur just like in the real world. Festival participants have to move, eat and sleep, just like they do in the real world. The ideal environment to test/pilot new innovations. Eight festivals that are open for entrepreneurs, startups, students and creative people for development and testing of innovations have joined forces in Innofest. During this theme session water innovations that have been valorised during festivals will be shown as well as upcoming festivals that offer new opportunities.

This session will be chaired by Herman Kopinga (Innofest) and Govert Reeskamp (technical producer of The Great Wide Open festival).

Closing the water cycle agri-business

Growing crops or farming cattle both require large amounts of water. Smart and innovative water management is required to sustain this agri-business in a world with increasing population and water stress. This session will focus on the water cycle within the business itself, how to “harvest” the water and keep it circulated at the farm. New ideas and technologies will be presented and serve as a starting point for a lively discussions on sustainable water cycle in the agri-business.

This session is moderated by Jan Broos (Broos Water).
